ALBERTA YOUTH
EMPLOYMENT INCENTIVE

How much funding is available?

How much funding can I receive?

Eligible employers may receive up to $7,500 in funding, available on a first-come, first-served basis. Funding is based on the number of youth hired:

  • $4000 for 1-2 youth(s) to a minimum of 400 hours combined
  • $7500 for 3-5 youth(s) to a minimum of 750 hours combined

Employers operating multiple locations may submit one application per location and are eligible to receive a one-time maximum of $7,500 per location. Corporations are limited to a maximum of 10 locations. Funding can only be claimed for the same youth once.

What kind of positions are eligible for this incentive?

Funding is available for youth 15-24 years of age employed in any position except for:

  • Registered apprenticeship (through Apprenticeship and Industry Training) and CO-OP positions
  • Positions already supported by another wage subsidy grant/incentive

When will I receive the funding, and how is it paid out?

Funding is paid as a one-time lump-sum payment after all program requirements have been met. Employers must continue to pay employees through their regular payroll process, as the Alberta Youth Employment Incentive does not replace employee wages. To qualify for funding:

  • The youth must be hired after your application has been submitted and reviewed for eligibility.
  • Hours worked must be completed and declared before March 31, 2028. To allow sufficient time for processing, final hour declarations should be submitted no later than January 31, 2028.
  • Employers must complete the required survey and skills assessment for their youth employee(s).
  • Funding is paid by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) once minimum hour requirements and all program requirements have been met.
